SFU Alumni Appreciation Website

User Interface Designer

The SFU Alumni Appreciation website allows the university community to submit tributes for Simon Fraser University alumni and organizes these profiles into a categorized database of stories and acknowledgement for alumni. Each profile is categorized and linked to other alumni profiles who are in the same field or year of graudation. Kirsten managed the UX and UI design for the SFU Alumni Appreciation website. Front-end design was constructed in CSS3, HTML and Javascript.

Responsive Design

The website is also responsive for various platforms and has a customized interface for mobile and tablet devices.

User input

The site allows users to upload information in an online form, and then displays a database of profiles, including various search and organizing tools for categorizing profile views.

Interactive map

Each profile is attached to a google map to show where the alumni is making a difference in the world.

Dynamic Timeline

Users can categorize profiles by year, and scroll through a timeline of graduates.

In this iPad application children can create digital books in two different languages, draw pictures, write their stories, and record an audio recording in each language.

Investigating Forensics

User Interface Designer

Investigating Forensics website was built for the Virtual Museum of Canada as a fictional case study for students to go through the forensics process of discovering evidence, analyzing data, and identifying the victim.

Kirsten was responsible for the user interface design and the branding throughout the site.

ClearBoard is an app prototype created as part of the UX program at Red Academy. ClearBoard is an activity based learning system that connects students mobiles or tablets to the teachers digital lessons the classroom.

The system follows a flow that benefit both teachers and students through the process.

Disconnected: a series of interactive web video chats

Disconnected, is a series of interactive webcam video chats in different types of online relationships. Only one side of the conversation is revealed at a time and viewers can interact by switching back and forth between the two webcam perspectives. The series is about Abby and Carmen, who are sisters. Abby engages in a long distance relationship with a European man, while Carmen attempts online dating with various men. The two sisters console each other through their endeavors. The themes explore miscommunication, deception and false impressions in online discourse; the connection between space and time in relationships; and the loss of message in interactive online media.

Lost Cause: an interactive film

Lost Cause is an online interactive movie which allows viewers to navigate between the perspectives of the main characters. The film lasts 15 minutes and contains three parallel storylines which play simultaneously. One large screen displays the main video while three thumbnail screens function as buttons and display each of the three character's point of view. Each characters perspective is subjective and different from another character's perspective creating ambiguity in the story. As viewers interact they piece together narrative fragments of these three characters to build their own interpretation of the story. Different choices will present varied sequences creating new interpretations of the story. By the end of the film the viewer's previous selections will determine which of the three conclusions will be played.

Interactive Blind Date is an interactive film where two different characters go on a blind date. The viewer makes choices for their character by choosing between two different emotions.
